You pick one of three or four cards, get about three minutes to prepare, then speak for three minutes to the group. It tests your power of expression, your confidence in front of people, and whether you can organise thoughts quickly.
Pick the topic you can structure, not the one you know most about
With three minutes to prepare, depth matters less than structure. Choose the card you can break into three clear points fast.
The 3-minute structure
- Opening (20 sec) — state your topic and why it matters.
- Body (2 min) — three clear points, one at a time, each with an example.
- Close (20 sec) — a crisp summary or forward-looking line.
Three points is the magic number. It's enough to sound substantial, few enough to remember without notes.
Delivery beats content
Stand still, look across the whole group (not the GTO), speak at a steady pace, and don't apologise. A simple talk delivered with calm confidence scores better than a clever one delivered nervously.
Strong vs. weak — side by side
"Social media has changed how India communicates. I'll cover three things: how it connects us, how it can mislead, and how to use it wisely."
"Um, social media… it's a very vast topic… there are many things to say about it…" (no structure, low confidence)
Common mistakes to avoid
- ✗Cramming too many points and running out of time.
- ✗Speaking only to the GTO instead of the group.
- ✗Filler words and apologising for nervousness.
- ✗Choosing the 'impressive' card you can't actually structure in 3 minutes.
